“An Irreplaceable Loss”: Mohanlal Pays Emotional Tribute to Sreenivasan

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Mohanlal fondly recalled his long association with legendary Malayalam actor, screenwriter and director Sreenivasan, saying he was a person who preserved his uniqueness both in cinema and in life. Expressing deep grief over his passing, Mohanlal said the loss has left him with an unending sense of sorrow.


“Sreenivasan always maintained a special warmth and friendship with everyone. He was someone who carried humour throughout his life,” Mohanlal said. He noted that Sreenivasan had been battling several health issues for a long time, but despite that, he was able to maintain close ties with his family.


“He was someone who walked alongside me through many years of my life journey. His departure has caused a grief that cannot be easily overcome,” Mohanlal said.


The actor recalled that although he had visited Amrita Hospital recently, he could not meet Sreenivasan. “We have gone through many emotional moments together. Ours was not merely a bond from the film industry,” he said.


Mohanlal emphasised that his relationship with Sreenivasan went beyond that of co-actors. “I share a deep bond with his family as well. Together, we were able to do many films that critiqued social realities and exposed contradictions within society,” he said.


“What gives me immense happiness is that we could convey even the most serious ideas to people through humour,” Mohanlal added, highlighting Sreenivasan’s unique ability to blend comedy with meaningful social commentary.


Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday morning at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital. Apart from being a celebrated actor, he left a strong imprint as a director and screenwriter, bringing the everyday struggles of ordinary people to the silver screen with wit and sensitivity.


A towering presence across all spheres of Malayalam cinema for nearly four decades, Sreenivasan is survived by his wife Vimala and sons Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.
