Thiruvananthapuram: Actor and MLA Mukesh on Saturday paid an emotional tribute to veteran actor and filmmaker Sreenivasan, saying his passing had left a deep personal void and that he had lost a source of courage in his life.

Speaking to the media, Mukesh said Sreenivasan had stood by him on many occasions, even confronting others on his behalf. “He fought many battles for me. Losing him feels like losing my own strength,” he said.

Mukesh described Sreenivasan as a filmmaker who approached acting, screenwriting and direction with rare seriousness and integrity. He said every one of Sreenivasan’s works carried a strong message and sharp social criticism, which he conveyed effortlessly through humour. “That was his unique strength,” Mukesh said.

Recalling their long association, Mukesh said the two shared a friendship that spanned over four decades. He described Sreenivasan as someone who spoke his mind without hesitation and never compromised on the quality of a story or screenplay.

According to Mukesh, Sreenivasan would move ahead with a project only after fully understanding the people involved and being personally convinced about it. “He insisted on precision in everything he did,” he said.

Mukesh said Sreenivasan left behind countless cherished memories, but his death had caused an irreparable loss. Despite their 43-year-long companionship, Mukesh said he never found the right occasion to speak publicly about Sreenivasan’s qualities. “I always wanted to tell the world the good things about him. That this moment has come under such circumstances fills me with immense grief,” he added.
