Thiruvananthapuram: UDF leaders have confirmed that they will continue their alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming local body and assembly elections. The political wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, the Welfare Party, has previously collaborated with UDF, and both parties have indicated that this cooperation will continue.

Opposition leader V D Satheeshan and Muslim League General Secretary PMA Salam said that the Welfare Party had supported UDF in the last assembly and Lok Sabha elections, and similar coordination is expected this time. Salam added that the party is open to extending support in certain constituencies, and arrangements will follow the precedent set in past elections.

Satheeshan highlighted that UDF has already accepted the Welfare Party’s support, which he had made clear during the Nilambur by-election.

Welfare Party leaders have previously stated that the political scenario is favourable for collaboration with UDF. The party had backed UDF in parliamentary and by-elections and had formed regional alliances in previous local body polls. Discussions regarding the party’s participation in the forthcoming elections are reportedly in the final stages.
