Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Shama Mohammed has called for the immediate expulsion of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who has gone into hiding following allegations of rape and forced abortion. There is no need to wait any longer, she told the media. If Rahul has courage and a clear stand, he should come out of hiding. He should not put the party on the defensive by refusing to face arrest, she said.

Rahul Mamkootathil is selfish. At that time he arrogantly claimed that there was not even a single complaint against him, yet now he has been missing for a week, Shama pointed out. She also warned him not to forget the party that nurtured him, especially during election time.

Meanwhile, the hearing on Mamkootathil’s anticipatory bail plea will continue tomorrow. The verdict will be delivered only after that. The case was postponed to tomorrow to hear further arguments. The court said that digital evidence and related materials will be examined in detail and that an arrest may be made if necessary.

The anticipatory bail hearing was held in a closed room. Since the application contained information affecting privacy, Mamkootathil had requested that the hearing be held behind closed doors. The proceedings lasted for an hour and a half. The verdict will be delivered after further arguments are heard.
