New Delhi: A massive protest was held at Jantar Mantar today on June 17, 2025 in support of the people of Palestine. The demonstration was organized by the Delhi State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) as part of a nationwide Solidarity Day. Participants included students, youth, writers, artists, and people from various walks of life.

Speaking at the protest, CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby condemned the Israeli government, calling it a rogue state, and described its President Benjamin Netanyahu as a terrorist supported by the U.S. President Donald Trump. He compared Israel’s recent attack on Iran to the terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, calling both unprovoked acts of violence.

He criticised the Indian government’s silence on the situation in Palestine and accused it of having ties with Israel through private companies. Baby alleged that drones produced in Hyderabad by companies linked to the Adani Group are being supplied to Israel and used in military operations in Palestine and Iran. He demanded an immediate halt to such supplies.

M. A. Baby said that the two-nation solution for Palestine and Israel has collapsed. He referred to a statement by Mahatma Gandhi which said that Palestine belongs to the Arabs and that people of all religions should live together peacefully, as they do in India. He said that, instead, Palestinian children are being shot and labelled as future terrorists.

He also said that the Palestinian movement is not a religious war but a national struggle for freedom, similar to India’s fight against British rule. He accused right-wing groups of spreading a false narrative to divide opinion.

Baby also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking out on the issue. He said the Prime Minister’s silence shows support for U.S. policies in the region, and that Israel is being used by the United States to control the Arab world.

Other leaders who spoke at the protest included CPI General Secretary D. Raja, CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, and representatives from the Communist Ghadar Party of India, Forward Bloc, and Revolutionary Socialist Party. They all expressed support for Palestine’s demand for independence and condemned the attacks by Israel.

The CPI(M) said it fully supports the Palestinian people’s struggle for national liberation and called on the Indian government to stop all military cooperation with Israel. The protest was part of actions taking place across the country.
