Thiruvananthapuram: The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 75.27 percent in the Nilambur by-election. The final figures were released on Friday.
In comparison, the turnout in the 2021 Assembly elections in Nilambur was 76.71 percent. During the 2024 Wayanad Lok Sabha election, polling in the Nilambur Assembly segment stood at 70.99 percent, while the 2025 Lok Sabha by-election saw a turnout of just 61.91 percent.
Despite being a by-election, polling in Nilambur remained lively and enthusiastic. Voting began briskly even amid heavy rain in the morning.
In the first two hours, 13.15 percent of voters had already cast their ballots. As the rain eased, the pace of polling picked up. By 1 PM, turnout had reached 46.73 percent, rising to 59.68 percent by 3 PM, and 70.76 percent by 5 PM. Voting concluded in most areas before 6 PM.
However, delays were reported in some places due to slow-functioning voting machines. The three special booths arranged for tribal voters also saw a high turnout.
