Kochi: Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil announced that women customers will be given up to 10 per cent discount on non-subsidised products at all Supplyco outlets starting November 1.
The announcement came during the valedictory function held in connection with Supplyco’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in Kochi. The minister said the discount will be in addition to the existing price reductions already available at Supplyco stores.
According to Anil, new schemes will soon be introduced to achieve a monthly sales target of 250 crore. As part of this plan, mobile supermarkets will be launched across all 14 districts, covering the 140 constituencies of the state.
He said that to improve the availability of quality rice, boiled rice will be included among the subsidised varieties. Ration cardholders will be able to purchase up to 20 kg of rice through Supplyco outlets, double the current limit of 10 kg.
The minister added that Supplyco has now grown beyond being a government institution and is functioning as a strong business organisation. “Supplyco is implementing marketing strategies comparable to international retail chains while continuing its market intervention initiatives to support the public,” he said.
Anil also announced that Privilege Cards will be introduced for customers, allowing them to earn reward points for every purchase and redeem them for discounts in future transactions.
During this financial year, 30 Maveli stores will be upgraded into supermarkets and 15 into superstores. By December, the Thalassery, Ernakulam, and Kottayam supermarkets will be converted into Signature Marts to offer customers a superior shopping experience. In addition, six new petrol pumps will be opened soon.
The minister said the benefits of GST restructuring, which led to price reductions, have been fully passed on to customers. Supplyco’s Sabari brand products will also become available through other retail outlets in the near future. Discussions are in progress with mill owners to procure and process paddy for Supplyco’s retail network.
Industries Minister P Rajeev said Supplyco recorded its highest-ever Onam sales this year, reaching 386 crore. Despite financial challenges, the Finance Department provided the necessary support to ensure smooth operations during the festive season.
Rajeev said Supplyco is now focusing on strengthening digital marketing and using new technologies. With new supermarkets, mobile marketing, e-marketing, and digital systems being introduced, greater attention will also be given to promoting local products, he added.
