Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has described the inauguration of the Vizhinjam International Seaport as a luminous chapter in the history of Keralam. Speaking at a press conference, he said the port opens up enormous possibilities in the transshipment sector, and that container traffic currently dependent on foreign ports will now be drawn towards Keralam, transforming the state's position in global maritime trade.

Vizhinjam, the Chief Minister said, is a landmark infrastructure project that lays a long-term foundation for Keralam's economic growth. The port will significantly boost employment opportunities and industrial investments in the state. He noted that the project has made strong progress since 2020, and that a decision has now been reached to complete all four phases of construction by 2028.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that the project advanced in the face of formidable challenges, including Cyclone Ockhi and the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted that the port will help create high-quality employment for the youth and attract global institutions and enterprises to Keralam. The project has already begun delivering substantial economic returns — in addition to record achievements last year, the port has generated revenue of ₹125 crore for the state, which the Chief Minister described as a major milestone.

He also noted that Keralam has made remarkable strides in the IT sector and digital infrastructure development as a direct result of the government's people-oriented policies. The Chief Minister stated that the key question before voters at this juncture is whether to continue on this path of development, and expressed firm confidence that the people will make the right choice.

Over the past ten years, the government has succeeded in creating more than 70,000 employment opportunities in the IT sector alone, he said, adding that the state holds immense potential for further IT-driven growth. He concluded by expressing his conviction that the people of Keralam are fully aware of these achievements and developments, and will reflect that awareness at the ballot box.
