Vizhinjam Fishermen Receive 34.18 Crore Kerosene Subsidy: Saji Cherian

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved 34.18 crore rupees as a Kerosene subsidy for fishermen in Vizhinjam, who faced hardships during the construction of the international port. Fisheries Minister Saji Cheriyan said the distribution of funds will begin soon. During the two-year construction of the port breakwater, fishermen from Vizhinjam South, Vizhinjam North, and Adimalathura villages received Kerosene at subsidised rates through Matsyafed to ease the impact on their fishing activities. The subsidy scheme had remained in place until 31 December 2024. Now, the approved 34.18 crore rupees is being disbursed to 1,256 registered engine owners affected by the Vizhinjam International Port project. Minister Cheriyan assured that steps would be taken to ensure the funds reach the beneficiaries promptly.
