Kerala to Host Vision 2031 Global Conference on Development and Democracy from Feb 15

Thiruvananthapuram: The 'Vision 2031: Development and Democracy' International Conference will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from February 15 to 17. The conference will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on February 15 at the Shankaranarayanan Thampi Hall of the Legislative Assembly. Revenue Minister K Rajan will preside over the inaugural session. Eminent personalities including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, historian Romila Thapar, and World Food Prize laureate Shakuntala Thilsted will address the conference.

On February 16 and 17, technical sessions on various themes will be held across nine venues. Earlier, 34 seminars were conducted across all 14 districts by various departments during October and November, and the international conference will serve as a consolidation of those deliberations. The conference will provide a platform for experts from around the world to present their views on the development initiatives implemented by the state and to share their perspectives on future development pathways.

The closing session will feature a seminar on “Secularism, Democracy, and Responsive Government”, with participation from Farooq Abdullah, Prakash Karat, Kanimozhi, and Justice Shah, among others.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged full cooperation and active participation from all concerned departments to ensure the successful conduct of the conference. He made the request during a meeting of department secretaries convened to review the preparations. The meeting was attended by Planning Board Vice Chairman Dr. V K Ramachandran, Chief Secretary Dr. S Jayathilak, members of the Planning Board, and other senior officials.
