Thiruvananthapuram: Vellappally Natesan, General Secretary of the SNDP Yogam, has said that K C Venugopal has grown into a dominant figure within the Indian National Congress.

Addressing a press conference, Natesan remarked that Venugopal’s opinions carry significant weight in the party’s national leadership and that he effectively holds the third most influential position within the Congress hierarchy. According to him, Venugopal now plays a decisive role in shaping how the party functions and governs.

He credited Venugopal as a key architect behind the party’s recent electoral success in the state, stating that he managed resources, including financial strategies, with precision to steer the Congress toward victory. Natesan also claimed that a substantial section of MPs and MLAs within the party stand firmly behind Venugopal.

Highlighting his growing stature, Natesan suggested that Venugopal is unlikely to return to active state-level politics in Kerala, given his expanding influence at the national level. “If Kerala offers only limited political space, national politics presents far greater opportunities,” he implied, noting that Venugopal’s strategic acumen and leadership skills enable him to exert considerable influence across India.

Natesan also commented on other Congress leaders, praising VD Satheesan for his performance as Leader of the Opposition, and describing Ramesh Chennithala as a leader capable of uniting different factions within the party.
