Thiruvananthapuram: “Dear sister, do not falter; Kerala is with you,” wrote Minister Veena George on Facebook. The post came in the context of a woman approaching the Chief Minister with a complaint that she had been sexually abused by Congress leader Rahul Mamkoottathil.
The minister’s post, which followed the emergence of serious allegations against Rahul Mamkoottathil, became a topic of discussion yesterday. Minister Veena George shared the Women’s Development Corporation’s helpline number, 181, assuring support and urging that one should not lose hope in life. She acknowledged that many people might face bitter experiences either from trusted individuals or others, but stressed the importance of not giving up.
"Let us face challenges without retreating. If words are turned into threats or blackmail, or if one has to endure physical or sexual harassment, it can be overcome,' Veena George wrote in her Facebook post earlier.
Meanwhile, following the sexual harassment complaint submitted to the Chief Minister, Mamkoottathil closed and fled his MLA office. He absconded during a campaign event. When he failed to arrive at a reception centre as promised in the evening, an inquiry revealed that he was in hiding. By the time journalists arrived, the MLA office was found locked and empty.
