Mockery, Denial and Social Media Abuse Against Minister Veena George Following Attack by KSU

The recent attack on Kerala Health Minister Veena George appears to have been a planned incident, with a larger conspiracy involving Congress leadership. The fact that certain Congress leaders, including Opposition Leader V D Satheesan, have downplayed or appeared to justify the attack backs this.

KSU State President Aloysius Xavier mocked the injured minister, suggesting she deserved an Oscar for the reaction after the attack by his collegaues. Shortly afterward, the KSU posted on its official Facebook page with the caption “Nayika” accompanied by two older photographs.

Protests erupted across Kerala following the incident, recalling previous instances of aggression by Congress and affiliated organizations, such as the attempt by Congress supporters in Kannur to attack the Chief Minister aboard a plane.

Congress leaders, however, have denied that the attack occurred, with VD Satheesan and KPCC President Sunny Joseph stating that preliminary investigations found no evidence of an assault. Even after the minister was admitted to ICU following the physical assault by KSU activists, the first response of the KSU President was to mock her pain comparing it to monoact by a school student.

Social media attacks against the minister by Congress affiliates has also increased. AI-generated videos and images from her school days at Kalotsavam events have been circulated.

This is not the first time the KSU has been linked to such incidents. A few years ago, black oil was poured on the body of Higher Secondary Director Keshavendra Kumar, and the case was reportedly withdrawn during the Oommen Chandy government, allowing the perpetrators to secure government jobs.

While Kerala has a long history of protests, critics argue that KSU and Youth Congress have made it routine to stage demonstrations in sensitive locations such as railway stations and even inside airplanes, raising concerns about public safety and decorum.
