Congress Putting Seats Up for Auction Is an Insult to Democracy, Says Minister V Sivankutty

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala General Education and Labour Minister V Sivankutty has alleged that the Congress party has degenerated into a “commercial entity” that auctions political seats, rather than functioning as a genuine political organisation. He made the remarks while speaking to the media in Thiruvananthapuram.

The minister referred to allegations of bribery amounting to ₹7 crore involving top Congress leaders, including K C Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi, in connection with the Haryana Assembly elections, describing them as “extremely serious.”

He criticised the party’s approach, saying that while ordinary workers toil hard at the grassroots, “the Congress style is to trade seats for crores from air-conditioned rooms in Delhi.”

Highlighting the role of a complaint filed by the husband of a former Mahila Congress leader with evidence, Sivankutty questioned how leaders who cheat even their own party members could serve the public. He also pointed to internal corruption, money laundering, and factional conflicts as reasons for the Congress’s ongoing collapse.

The minister called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and warned that the party leadership should be mindful that “the people are watching everything.”
