Thiruvananthapuram: Two moving vehicles caught fire in separate incidents in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode districts, but no injuries were reported as the occupants managed to escape in time.
In the first incident, a car carrying a couple caught fire near Jagathy in Thiruvananthapuram around 11 am on Friday. According to Fire and Rescue Service officials, the couple noticed smoke and immediately pulled the vehicle to the roadside. They got out and alerted the nearby fire station. Within minutes, the car was engulfed in flames and was completely gutted.
Fire tenders reached the spot within minutes and brought the blaze under control. Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, though the vehicle was reportedly old.
In a similar incident at Omassery in Kozhikode district late Thursday night, a moving autorickshaw transporting electronic goods caught fire. Fire and Rescue Service personnel said the driver noticed the fire while the vehicle was on the move. He and others travelling in the vehicle managed to get out safely before the flames spread.
Fire tenders reached the area and extinguished the fire within half an hour. The autorickshaw and the electronic goods it was carrying were completely destroyed.
Officials of the Motor Vehicles Department have started an investigation to find out the cause of both incidents.
