Kochi: A Facebook comment calling for the assassination of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sparked widespread outrage. The comment was posted by Tina Jose, also known as Mary Treesa P J, under a post announcing the Chief Minister’s participation in an LDF election campaign event in Thiruvananthapuram. In her remark, she wrote that someone should “throw a bomb and finish him,” comparing it to the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Tina Jose is known as an active worker and strong promoter of Twenty20, the organisation led by businessman Sabu Jacob. She has been involved with the outfit from its early phase and has organised meetings for Twenty20 in various districts. Though she claims to be a lawyer, she does not practise. Church authorities have also clarified that she is not associated with the CMC congregation, noting that she left the order in 2009 after being granted dispensation.
Reacting to the incident, Minister V Sivankutty condemned the Facebook comment, describing it as a shocking and unacceptable attack on democratic values. He stated that issuing a death threat against a Chief Minister is not merely a personal opinion but a direct challenge to the country’s legal system. Sivankutty also questioned how a person who identifies as a lawyer could resort to such behaviour and demanded that Twenty20 immediately clarify its stand on allowing a person who makes such statements to act as its public promoter.
