Tiger and dog trapped in a pit near Maildumpara rescued safely

Idukki:A tiger fell into a deep pit near Maildumpara, close to the Tamil Nadu border, on Sunday morning while chasing a dog. Both the tiger and the dog became trapped together inside the pit, the forest department said. Both animals were rescued, with the tiger being tranquilized and safely brought out. The tiger was also given a rabies vaccine as a precautionary measure.

A senior forest official confirmed that both the dog and the tiger appeared unharmed. Photographs aired on TV channels showed the two animals lying close to each other inside the pit.

The incident was reported around 7 AM, and forest personnel were immediately dispatched to the site, located between the Tamil Nadu forest reserve and the Periyar sanctuary. The official also noted that the area is not a usual habitat for tigers.
