Man Undergoing Treatment in Thrissur Dies; Shigella Suspected

Thrissur: A 43-year-old man who died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kodakara after suffering from severe abdominal pain is suspected to have been infected with Shigella, according to preliminary findings.
The deceased had been residing at Kuzhikaani in Kodakara. He passed away on Saturday.
Initial indications from the postmortem report suggest the presence of Shigella infection. Health authorities have stated that further investigation is required to determine the exact source of the infection.
Samples will be collected and subjected to detailed laboratory examination as part of the effort to trace the origin of the disease. District health officials confirmed that all relevant details have been forwarded to the state health department for further evaluation.
However, the state health department has not yet issued an official confirmation declaring the case as Shigella infection.
Meanwhile, additional Shigella cases were reported recently in the state. Two siblings in Wadakkanchery and one child in Kacheri under the corporation limits were confirmed to have contracted the infection.
