Thrissur: Before the shock of the accident in Kaipamangalam, where eight people were killed after a car rammed into a parked lorry, could subside, another fatal accident occurred in Thrissur. A couple and their three-year-old son were killed in an accident in Kunnamkulam around midnight on Saturday after an out-of-control car crashed into their motorcycle parked on the roadside.

The deceased have been identified as Muneer, 35, his wife Safna, 25, and their three-year-old son Yamil Aibak, residents of Panchavadi Thazhath House at Edakkazhiyur in Chavakkad. The accident occurred around midnight on the Guruvayur-Kunnamkulam road.

The family was returning home on their motorcycle after attending a wedding ceremony in the Kunnamkulam area. According to the preliminary assessment, they had stopped by the roadside to attend a phone call when a car travelling in the same direction crashed into them.

The injured were taken to private hospitals but could not be saved. The impact threw the three people on the motorcycle nearly 50 metres away. The motorcycle that was hit was also thrown away and crashed into a nearby KSEB transformer, damaging it. A power line also snapped and fell, hampering the rescue operation.

The individuals travelling in the car fled the scene after the accident. Police and fire and rescue personnel reached the spot.

The latest accident comes just a day after eight people were killed when a car carrying students rammed into a parked goods lorry on the national highway at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam on Friday night.

The deceased in that accident were V Viswa, G Santhosh, Prasanna, M Murali Krishna, I Surya, K Yuvasanjith, J Joshua Hilson and N Jeeva, all students of a private engineering college in Dindigul.
