Thrissur Road Accident: Speeding and Drunk Driving Caused Accident; Driver Absconding

Thrissur: A family of three — including a three-year-old girl — was killed in Thrissur when a speeding car driven by a drunk driver rammed into their stationary motorcycle. The driver, identified as Benny, a native of Arthat, was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident and fled the scene immediately afterwards. A manhunt is under way to trace him.

Three others who were with Benny in the car have been taken into police custody. All four occupants of the car had been drinking at a private bar in Kunnamkulam before the accident. The tragedy occurred around 11.45 pm at Kurukkanpara Centre, Kunnamkulam, Thrissur.

The victims — Muneer (33) of Thazhathuveedu, his wife Shafna (26) and their three-year-old daughter Ameen Ibac — were on their way from Kunnamkulam towards Chavakkad when they had stopped their motorcycle by the roadside to make a phone call. The speeding car ploughed into them, flinging them into a nearby field. The impact also shattered an electric pole, disrupting power supply and traffic in the area for a considerable time. Kunnamkulam police and KSEB personnel reached the spot to restore normalcy.
