Thrissur Firecracker Unit Explosion: Three Victims Identified

Thrissur: The three people among the thirteen, who lost their lives in the explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode in Thrissur, have been identified.

The deceased are Vasudevan (54) of Kumaranellur, Wadakkanchery; Subin (45), from Kundannur; and Sudarshanan (54) of Vennur, Pazhayannur.

Sudarshanan had been engaged in the fireworks industry for nearly 30 years. He had taken a break from work for about five years due to an abdominal illness—a period that also coincided with a decline in fireworks displays. With the recent revival of festival fireworks, he returned to work amid a shortage of skilled workers. He had come home for Vishu and returned to his workplace just two days before the incident.

He had been part of several major fireworks displays in Kerala, including those at Nenmara Vallangi, Kavassery, and the renowned Thrissur Pooram. For much of his career, he worked under Vennur Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan had died in a 2006 accident when a fireworks storage unit caught fire during preparations for a display associated with the Paramekkavu faction.
