Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is preparing for a vibrant celebration of the upcoming Christmas and New Year season, with the state capital set to host the annual Vasanthotsavam (Spring Festival) alongside the New Year Light Festival. The festivities will take place from the last week of December through the first week of January, under the joint leadership of the Tourism Department and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).

Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas, who chaired the organizing committee meeting, said this year’s festival will feature thematic lighting displays and enhanced promotions to attract tourists and visitors to the city. “The flower show and lighting will be a true people’s festival, creating a colorful and festive atmosphere for all,” he said.

Vasanthotsavam will once again be curated in collaboration with the Palode Botanical Garden, which successfully organized the previous edition. Various state departments, the Kerala Agricultural University, and local nurseries will participate, contributing to the flower displays and other festival activities. Cultural programs and competitions will also form an integral part of the celebrations.

A robust organizing committee has been formed to oversee the smooth execution of the events. Ministers V. Sivankutty and G. R. Anil will serve as chief patrons, alongside local MLAs, MPs, the Mayor, and the District Panchayat President. Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas will chair the committee, with Minister V. Sivankutty as the working chairman. The Tourism Secretary will act as general convener, with the District Collector and Tourism Director as conveners, and the Additional Director (General) of Tourism as joint convener. The DTPC Secretary will coordinate the festival, supported by several subcommittees managing various segments of the event.
