Kerala Sees Widespread Protests Condemning Attack on Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Statewide protests have erupted following the attack on Kerala Health Minister Veena George by KSU activists. Demonstrations were organized across various districts under the leadership of the CPI(M), DYFI, SFI, and the Mahila Association.


Protesters demanded that the Congress end physical assaults carried out in the name of protest and urged party leaders not to justify the attack. In Kollam, a protest demonstration was organized by the CPI(M) Area Committee under the leadership of CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan.


The minister was attacked and injured at Kannur Railway Station while returning from the inauguration of the Kalyad International Ayurveda Research Centre. KSU–Youth Congress group staged a protest during which the minister was attacked. She sustained injuries to her neck and hand and is admitted to the intensive care unit of the Kannur district hospital.


So far, police have arrested five KSU members related to the attack.
