Kottayam: A 52-year-old woman who arrived from South Sudan is under observation in a special isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College Hospital following suspicion of Ebola infection. The patient had initially sought treatment for fever at a private hospital in Pala, after which the Health Department intervened and transferred her to the Medical College.
The patient is being monitored by a specially designated team. Hospital authorities have noted that she does not present other classic, common symptoms typically associated with Ebola, and that her fever shows slight improvement. Confirmation of whether the infection is Ebola can only be established once the test results from samples sent to Thiruvananthapuram are received. A medical board will be constituted to decide on further course of treatment.
