Chengannur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) seized bank-related documents during a search conducted at the residence of Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, who was arrested in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. Documents including passbooks and cheques were taken into custody.

An eight-member investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Babu reached the residence at Mundankavu in Chengannur at around 2.30 pm on Saturday. The search, which lasted for over eight hours, concluded at 10.45 pm.

In addition to a gold appraiser who accompanied the team, investigators also summoned a goldsmith to the house at around 4.30 pm. Apart from household valuables, the team examined gold ornaments received as offerings. The assessment focused on the value and antiquity of the gold. Financial documents belonging to the Tantri and his family members were also investigated.

Police teams from Chengannur, Pulikeezh, and Mannar stations were present at the site. Those at the house included Rajeevaru’s wife Bindu, daughter Aarathi, mother-in-law, and the Tantri’s assistant (parikarmi) Narayanan Namboothiri. Rajeevaru’s daughter-in-law, Adhriya Parvathi, who arrived at the house after learning about the search, was initially not allowed to enter but was later permitted. The family said they would approach the High Court seeking bail for the Tantri.
