Shanku is Back: Little Viral Star Corrects Minister Bindu Krishna Over Identity Mix-Up

Thiruvananthapuram: Shanku, the young boy who sparked Kerala's "biryani revolution" with a viral video from his anganwadi, is back in the headlines — this time with a video responding to a remark made by Minister Bindu Krishna.

The minister had told the media that the child who had asked for biryani was the grandson of Radhama­ni, the Mahila Congress district secretary from Chavara in Kollam. Shanku wasted no time setting the record straight with a characteristically candid rejoinder.

"The new minister aunty said I am Radhama­ni chechi's little grandson. I am not Radhama­ni chechi's grandson at all. My grandmother's name is Omana. My other grandmother's name is Reena Thankappan. That's all there is to it," Shanku said in the video.

The clip went massively viral on social media shortly after it was shared.

Shanku first shot to fame when a video of him complaining about the food served at his anganwadi spread widely online. In the clip, he had demanded biryani and fried chicken instead of the usual upma. The video prompted then Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George to intervene in the matter.

Following the buzz generated by what came to be known as the "biryani challenge," the minister announced a revision of the food menu at anganwadis, and biryani was subsequently distributed to children at anganwadi centres in Thiruvananthapuram. The menu at anganwadis and schools across Kerala was later updated as well.

It is in the wake of this statewide conversation that Shanku has now returned to social media with his latest viral moment.
