Congress-RSS Understanding Behind Appointments in Universities, Says SFI Leader P S Sanjeev

Thiruvananthapuram: The induction of people who work in line with the interests of the Sangh Parivar into universities across the state is part of a clear mutual understanding between the Congress and the RSS, SFI state secretary P S Sanjeev said. He also alleged that RSS policies were being implemented by turning departmental ministers into mere spectators.

“People who work according to the interests of the Sangh Parivar are being appointed as vice-chancellors and registrars in different universities. Sangh Parivar members without the required qualifications are being brought into these positions. The syndicate is also an academic body. This is happening as part of a clear mutual understanding between the Congress and the RSS,” Sanjeev told the media.

“Keralam is a state where a false case was filed alleging that historian Irfan Habib had attacked Arif Mohammed. We also witnessed a situation in which the Governor targeted a university vice-chancellor based on that false case, while right-wing media stood with the person carrying out the targeting,” he said.

Sanjeev alleged that vice-chancellors in universities have now acquired a protocol status higher than that of departmental ministers. “The vice-chancellors are implementing RSS policies by turning departmental ministers into mere spectators. At Kerala University, Vande Mataram was sung in full under the guise of following protocol, overturning all norms. This was also a violation of secular principles,” he said.

“Congress has had a clear position on Vande Mataram since 1930. Not only was Vande Mataram sung in full in Keralam in violation of that position, but it has also been declared that they are willing to comply with it,” Sanjeev said.

Sanjeev also alleged that the police dealt with the SFI protest against the singing of Vande Mataram with extreme brutality. “The police directly struck female students on the head and knocked them down. An SFI central committee member collapsed unconscious. State secretariat member Vaishnavi Shaji suffered an injury below her eye. If the injury had been an inch away, it could have resulted in loss of vision,” he said.

“It was a protest involving fewer than 100 students. But today’s police violence is being unleashed by making the police manual a mere formality,” Sanjeev said.

He also questioned the police action of registering an attempt-to-murder case against SFI members. “Which police officer did the SFI members try to kill?” he asked.

Sanjeev alleged that the objective was to implicate SFI members in false cases on a large scale.
