Thiruvananthapuram: A fresh RSS-linked gang attack was reported at Nettayam Malamukal in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, leaving local resident Sunil seriously injured and a police officer hospitalised after clashes that erupted in two separate incidents during the day.
The violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Sunil and his relative and neighbour Binu, both residents of Nettayam Malamukal. Around 1 pm, as Sunil was returning from Vattiyoorkavu police station, he was intercepted and assaulted by an RSS group led by Binu. The attackers — identified as Anilkumar, Sudhi, Anandu, Govind, Akhil, and Aji, all residents of Manikanteshwaram — waylaid and beat him at the hilltop location. Sunil was first taken to Peroorkada District Hospital and subsequently shifted to the Medical College Hospital.
In a second incident around 7.30 pm, RSS workers gathered from various areas assembled at Manalayam, and when local residents questioned their presence, the group turned on them as well. Stone-pelting broke out from both sides. Vattiyoorkavu police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
Civil Police Officer Deepu of Vattiyoorkavu police station sustained injuries in the stone-pelting and was admitted to Peroorkada District Hospital.
