Chennithala Confirms Earlier Complaints Against Rahul Mamkoottathil

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has confirmed that several complaints had previously been received against Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is accused in a sexual assault case. Chennithala told the media that both the Leader of the Opposition and the KPCC President had received many such complaints. He added that the party had acted unanimously at that time. “No one is hiding Rahul; let the law take its course,” Chennithala said.
Chennithala’s statement comes at a time when several Congress leaders have taken differing positions regarding Rahul. Another senior leader, K. Sudhakaran, has stated that he is not claiming Rahul is innocent, but insists that Rahul has not committed a mistake serious enough to end his political career. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan and KPCC President Sunny Joseph have mostly remained silent on the matter. Shafi Parambil too had avoided giving clear responses to questions about Rahul.
Rahul shut down his MLA office and went into hiding soon after the survivor directly filed a complaint with the Chief Minister. The allegations against Rahul are extremely serious. There is evidence that he forced the woman to become pregnant and later compelled her to undergo an abortion. Audio recordings and chat messages supporting these claims had surfaced earlier.
