Alappuzha: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has said that cyber groups spreading defamatory content against a survivor on social media cannot be fully controlled. He was responding to questions about allegations that Congress’s social media teams disclosed information about the survivor in the sexual assault case involving MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil.

Chennithala said that it is impossible to prevent individuals from expressing their opinions on social media and that Congress has not insulted the survivor. He added that he is unaware of any social media intervention by Sandeep Warrier that identified the survivor and that any questions regarding that should be directed to him. None of them would engage in such behaviour. Strict action has been taken in Rahul Mamkoottathil's case, and he has been removed from the party.

He further stated that he is not claiming the case against Rahul is a political conspiracy. If anyone has committed a wrongdoing as an individual, the law should take its course. Other matters will be considered after court proceedings. He also said it was inappropriate for a newspaper editorial to adopt a pro-Rahul stance, and the newspaper’s MD has been asked for an explanation.
