Ramadan to Begin Thursday in Kerala After No Moon Sighting

Thiruvananthapuram: The month of Ramadan will commence on Thursday, as the crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in the state on Tuesday evening.


Confirming the development, Palayam Imam Dr. V.P. Suhaib Maulavi said that in the absence of moon sighting, the month of Sha'ban will complete 30 days on Wednesday, and the first day of Ramadan will be observed on Thursday.


With the fast not beginning on Wednesday due to the lack of moon sighting, muslim community have intensified preparations for the holy month. The decision was taken after authorities received no confirmed reports of crescent moon sighting from either North or South Kerala.


Meanwhile, Gulf countries except Oman will commence Ramadan on Wednesday.
