Court to Hear Plea to Revoke Bail of Rahul Mamkoottathil in Sexual Assault Case

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram First Class Judicial Magistrate Court will today hear a petition seeking revocation of the bail granted to former Congress leader Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is accused in multiple sexual assault cases. The hearing pertains to the second complaint in the case, filed by a woman from Bengaluru.
The Special Investigation Team has approached the court alleging that Rahul has violated his bail conditions. Police contend that a friend of Rahul, with his knowledge, spread information through social media and attempted to influence the survivor — grounds on which they are seeking cancellation of bail. The defence is expected to file its response in court today.
Rahul faces a series of grave charges including sexual assault and forced abortion. Despite the serious criminal allegations, Congress has drawn widespread criticism for its stance of shielding him — with young leaders including C.R. Mahesh having visited Rahul at home and publicly declared support.
