Pathanamthitta: The Pathanamthitta District Sessions Court has postponed delivering its verdict on the bail plea of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is currently in jail in connection with a third sexual assault case against him. The court will pronounce its decision next Wednesday.

Earlier, the Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate Court rejected Rahul’s bail application after dismissing all arguments put forward by the defence. Following this, the accused approached the Sessions Court. During the recent hearing of the bail plea at the Sessions Court as well, the defence reportedly suffered a major setback.

The prosecution argued that its findings and relevant High Court judgments effectively dismantle the defence’s claims. Rahul Mamkootathil was taken into custody on the 11th based on a complaint filed by a woman from Kottayam who is currently residing abroad. The remand report also stated that the accused is a habitual offender and that his release could pose a threat to the lives of the survivors.
