‘No Sense of Shame’: People Must Understand Moral Decay in Congress, Says M V Govindan

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan said that Rahul Mamkootathil has enjoyed the Congress party’s full support both in the past and at present. He alleged that if Rahul secures bail and is released, he will once again return to Congress organisational activities without any sense of shame. Govindan said the public should understand that these, in fact, are what the Congress considers the primary qualifications for becoming the Youth Congress state president or an MLA.
He said Rahul has now been arrested based on the third disclosure made against him, and that the allegations are extremely serious. “The present case includes offences such as forced abortion. The complaint also speaks of brutal sexual assault and physical violence. The fact that the foetus was preserved even after the abortion will pose a major challenge for Rahul, as the truth will emerge clearly through DNA testing. More cases are likely to come out,” he said. He added that each new revelation should be seen as a reflection of the moral decay of the Congress in Kerala.
He said the situation reflects severe degeneration, and that people involved in public service are viewing the issue with utmost seriousness. “At the time each alleged offence was committed, Rahul was a Congress member, the Youth Congress president, and an MLA. People should remember when exactly the Congress agreed to expel Rahul. The public is watching everything and will understand,” Govindan said.
Responding to a question on whether the CPI(M) would demand Rahul’s resignation as an MLA, Govindan said that Rahul himself should take the appropriate decision.
