Protests Surge as People Take to the Streets Against Congress Criminal Group

Thiruvananthapuram: Protests broke out across Kerala after KSU activists attacked Minister Veena George. People across the state took to the streets condemning the Congress party’s violent protest. Demonstrations erupted in villages and cities without any formal call for protest.

The incident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday when the minister arrived at the railway station to board the Vande Bharat Express after attending the inauguration of the Kalliad International Ayurveda Research Centre. The Kannur Town Police arrested KSU district president MC Atul, treasurer VV Akshay, Bitul Balan, CH Mubas, and Ahmed Yasin in connection with the attack.

On Wednesday, Youth Congress members staged black-flag protests at various locations across Kannur district. After protesting at six locations without receiving media attention, they allegedly attacked the minister at the railway station, without regard for the fact that she is a woman. This is reported to be the first time in Kerala’s political history that a woman minister has been physically assaulted. The previous day, Youth Congress members allegedly trespassed into the minister’s official residence and placed a wreath there.

The minister, who sustained a serious neck injury, is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU at Government Medical College, Pariyaram. Immediately after the attack, she was taken to the district hospital in Kannur. An MRI scan was recommended after doctors detected an injury to her neck, following which she was shifted to the medical college hospital for further treatment. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the district hospital to assess her condition.
