New Delhi: CPI M Senior Leader Prakash Karat has urged the Indian government to be prepared to express solidarity with Venezuela in the wake of US aggression against the country. He made the remarks while speaking at a Venezuela solidarity event in Delhi, organised under the leadership of opposition parties.

Karat criticised former US President Donald Trump’s attempts to seize Venezuela’s oil assets and called for strong protests against the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

“All nations must unite against American intervention,” he said, adding that the Indian government’s response to the attack on Venezuela does not reflect the will of the Indian people. He insisted that the Modi government must be willing to reconsider its stance.

CPI General Secretary D Raja, speaking in the assembly, questioned what authority Trump had to detain the president of a sovereign nation. He also criticised the Modi government for not even expressing disapproval, asking why such a shameful position had been taken and whether there was any willingness to condemn it.
