Thiruvananthapuram: Former CPI(M) Politburo member Prakash Karat has dismissed the five guarantees announced by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the Keralam assembly elections as empty promises. He claimed they would only last until the elections and be forgotten once Congress comes to power. As evidence, Karat pointed to Telangana, where pensions have not been paid for 25 months.

For the past 12 years, the BJP government has been undermining democracy, violating the Constitution, and dismantling federal structures. Keralam stands out as an exception. The state has no communal conflicts, unlike Congress-ruled states elsewhere in India, Karat added. He highlighted that Telangana alone saw seven communal riots within a single year.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress justifies such conflicts. Kerala remains uniquely different, thanks to the LDF's leadership, Karat emphasized. While Uttar Pradesh enforces "bulldozer raj," Congress-ruled Karnataka and Telangana face similar issues. In contrast, Kerala's Left front provides homes to the homeless, he noted.
