PR Stunts to Appear Popular, Provoking the Survivor — And Now Facing the Result of His Own Actions: Congress MP Unnithan Slams Mamkoottathil

Kasaragod: Senior Congress leader and MP Rajmohan Unnithan has publicly condemned MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is currently facing charges of sexual exploitation and forced abortion. Unnithan said that Mamkoottathil used unethical means and PR manipulation to project himself as having greater public influence than other Congress leaders in Kerala. He added that the consequences Mamkoottathil is now facing are the result of his own actions. “The Congress took the right decision at the right time by initiating action against him. He alone chose to defy that decision,” Unnithan said.
Unnithan also called upon those within the Congress who defended Mamkoottathil, whether openly or behind the scenes, to reconsider their stance. He said that no one should attempt to justify such conduct. He remarked that it is Mamkoottathil who must reflect, repent, and seek atonement, and stated that no one who upholds moral values can support the behaviour outlined in the allegations. He criticised Mamkoottathil for repeatedly challenging and provoking the survivor through the media and said that he had no right to speak against her. “Earlier he demanded, ‘Where is the complaint?’ Now that the complaint is here, what has he done except run from it?” Unnithan said.
He emphasised that the core issue is not simply the legal process but moral accountability. According to Unnithan, Mamkoottathil’s own decisions brought upon him the current repercussions and pushed the survivor to approach the Chief Minister and file a complaint. He added that if Mamkoottathil had accepted the disciplinary action imposed by the Congress and stepped back from the public spotlight for a period, there might have been a path to return in the future. “But he has now made that impossible. The Congress is not responsible for this outcome,” Unnithan stated.
