Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the Central government not to allow the health of Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar against irregularities and question paper leaks in the NEET examination, to deteriorate any further.

In a social media post, Pinarayi said reports indicating that Wangchuk's condition had become critical were deeply concerning. He said Wangchuk had lost significant body weight and was facing the risk of organ failure, yet the Central government had not initiated any dialogue with him.

Pinarayi accused the Centre of displaying complete indifference not only to the concerns of students affected by the alleged examination irregularities but also to the life of a protester confronting a life-threatening situation.

He also added that despite the protest being ignored by what he described as media outlets sympathetic to the BJP, the hunger strike had evolved into a nationwide voice of protest.

Calling for urgent reforms, Pinarayi said the government must take effective steps to cleanse the education system that had been undermined by corruption. He described Sonam Wangchuk's life as valuable to the country and said the success of the movement was essential for the future of the nation.

Expressing solidarity with the protest, Pinarayi said he stood with Wangchuk and the people's movement seeking reforms in the examination system.
