Delhi Police's Attempt to Arrest Aishe Ghosh at CPI(M) Central Committee Office Condemnable: Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the Delhi Police's attempt to enter the CPI(M) Central Committee office in Delhi to arrest SFI leader and former JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh.

He said the Central government should remember that the SFI and Left student movements are not organisations that would bow down to intimidation or repression. In a Facebook post, Pinarayi alleged that the Delhi Police, acting in line with the Central government's political interests, had committed a grave assault on democracy and a blatant violation of citizens' constitutional rights.

"The attempt by the Delhi Police to enter the CPI(M) Central Committee office in Delhi and arrest SFI leader and former JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh is highly condemnable. Acting in accordance with the political interests of the Central government, the Delhi Police has carried out a serious attack on democracy and a blatant violation of citizens' constitutional rights.

Attempting to arrest her inside a party office in connection with an old case pending before a court is a challenge to the rule of law. This can only be seen as a retaliatory action to cover up the embarrassment suffered by the Central government and Sangh Parivar forces following the strong resistance they faced at Jantar Mantar.

Believing that the fighting spirit of the country's student movements can be crushed by implicating them in false cases, and that those who question and dissent can be intimidated into silence, is nothing more than an illusion. The Central government would do well to remember that the SFI and Left student movements are not forces that will surrender to such threats or repression.

The Delhi Police's attempt to forcibly enter the CPI(M) Central Committee office is condemnable. I express my solidarity with Comrade Aishe Ghosh and the fighters of the SFI. This persecution must be met with strong nationwide protests from all those who believe in democracy."
