Payyanur Child Death: Devansh Shaurya's Family Protests, Seeks Action Against Doctors

Payyanur: The family of one-and-a-half-year-old Devansh Shaurya, who died after becoming critically ill following the administration of anaesthesia, has staged a protest demanding action against all the doctors they hold responsible for the incident.
Police had earlier registered a case against a doctor at the hospital based on a complaint filed by the family alleging medical negligence.
Devansh Shaurya, the son of Suraj, a native of Payyanur, was taken to Baby Memorial Hospital, Payyanur, after sustaining injuries to his lip and chin while playing. The family alleges that the child became critically ill immediately after being administered anaesthesia for suturing the wound.
Devansh, who was later placed on ventilator support, died while undergoing treatment at BMH Hospital, Kannur. According to his relatives, the wound had already begun to heal, and they questioned why there was any urgent need to administer anaesthesia under those circumstances.
The family also alleged that doctors had initially informed them that the child required plastic surgery and that a doctor had said he would come to the hospital only after a fee of ₹18,000 was paid. They further claimed that the parents had not been informed about the potential risks associated with administering anaesthesia.
Devansh was born to Suraj and his wife after eight years of waiting. The family said they do not want any other child to suffer a similar fate and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the incident and action against everyone found responsible.
