80-Year-Old Woman Killed in Wild Elephant Attack in Pathanapuram

Pathanapuram: An 80-year-old woman was killed in a wild elephant attack in Pathanapuram. The deceased has been identified as Rajamma, a native of Kadasheri.


The attack occurred in the Kadasheri-Ummanoor area when Rajamma was on her way to work.


A wild elephant charged at a group of workers who were heading to their employment guarantee work. While several workers ran in different directions, Rajamma was unable to escape.


Rajamma, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, was taken to the taluk hospital, but her life could not be saved. Local residents said wild elephant attacks have become a serious problem in the area.


A rubber tapping worker was also seriously injured in a wild elephant attack the previous day. The incident occurred at Chokkana in Palappilly, Thrissur, when a herd of wild elephants attacked the workers. Shashi Challi of Nayatukundu sustained serious injuries in the attack.


Shashi, who suffered severe injuries to his ribs and shoulder bone, is currently undergoing treatment.


Amid growing concerns over wild elephant attacks in the state, criticism is intensifying that there has been no effective intervention from the government.
