Kerala raises Onam allowance for MGNREGS workers to 1,200 rupees

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has announced a hike in the allowance for workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Finance Minister K N Balagopal said the Onam allowance has been increased by 200 rupees, raising it from 1,000 to 1,200 rupees. A total of 5,25,991 workers will benefit from this decision, with 51.96 crore rupees already allocated for disbursal. Only those who have completed 100 days of work will be eligible, which comes to around 5,19,623 workers. Similarly, under the Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, 6,368 workers will receive the allowance. An allocation of 63.68 lakh rupees has been made for this purpose. Here too, eligibility is limited to those who have completed 100 days of work.
