Thalassery: A special court handling SC/ST cases, functioning as the District Sessions Court, has rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of the fourth and fifth accused in the case related to the death of Nithin Raj, a first-year BDS student at a private dental college in Anjarakandy.

District Sessions Judge M Manoj dismissed the petitions filed by college principal Dr Vinod Moni and Dr Latha Sasidharan, associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry.

The court rejected the pleas after considering the arguments of public prosecutor K Ajith Kumar, who submitted that the alleged conspiracy involving the first accused, Dr M K Ram, and the fourth and fifth accused also needed to be investigated. He argued that the accused needed to be taken into custody and questioned in detail as part of the investigation.

Nithin Raj died after falling from a college building on April 10. The Crime Branch had arrested Dr Ram, head of the Department of Oral Pathology at the dental college and the first accused in the case.

The second accused, Dr K T Sangeetha, an associate professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, had earlier been granted anticipatory bail. A special Crime Branch team is investigating the case.
