Thiruvananthapuram: Minister V Sivankutty has said that regardless of who contests as the LDF candidate in Nemom, the BJP’s ‘closed account’ in the constituency will remain unchanged.

“There is media discussion about who the candidate in Nemom will be. The answer is that it will be the person decided by the party and the front. Self-proclaimed candidates are not the style of the Left. One thing is certain—the closed account will remain closed,” Sivankutty wrote on Facebook.

As the election approaches, some media outlets have begun “announcing” candidates on their own. One news channel had even “predicted” that Sivankutty would not contest from Nemom. It was in response to this that Sivankutty reiterated his statement about the BJP’s account remaining closed.

In the 2016 Assembly election, BJP leader O Rajagopal won from Nemom, aided by a split in Congress votes. However, in the 2021 election, V Sivankutty defeated BJP candidate Kummanam Rajasekharan, thereby “closing the BJP’s account” in the constituency. Sivankutty was recalling this episode in his remarks.
