Election Outcome Will Be Setback For Jamaat-e-Islami–UDF alliance, Says MV Govindan

Kannur: CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan said that the UDF faced the local body election with the full support of Jamaat-e-Islami. He stated that the UDF has realized that it cannot take on the LDF. This became clear in the Palakkad by-election and in the recent parliamentary election. Following this, both the Muslim League and the Congress openly moved toward a communal alliance by seeking public support from Jamaat-e-Islami. A communal front was formed by aligning with Jamaat-e-Islami and the SDPI. This alliance became strongest in North Kerala. In nearly a hundred seats, the UDF and Jamaat-e-Islami fielded candidates together.

Govindan said that the LDF countered these communal fronts very effectively with a secular stance. The election results will be a setback to the UDF, which believed it could defeat the Left by forming an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.

He added that the local body election is a prelude to the upcoming assembly election. The LDF will move forward with a huge majority. The people of Kerala will once again endorse the Left government. The UDF and BJP had nothing substantial to raise against the Left in this election. While the UDF and the right-wing media attempted to focus on the Sabarimala issue, even senior leaders like AK Antony had to acknowledge that Sabarimala would not influence local body elections. People will take a clear stand based on their real-life experiences. The government is moving ahead with welfare-oriented programs.

Govindan highlighted that Kerala became officially free of extreme poverty on November 1, which gained global attention. The government has implemented many schemes for women and youth, including financial assistance and pension increases. The UDF, which had earlier mocked pensions as bribes, now finds itself without anything to criticize. Govindan asserted that the LDF will win the election with a historic majority.
