Kerala Govt Considering New District Headquartered in Muvattupuzha, Says Satheesan

Muvattupuzha: Chief Minister VD Satheesan said the government is considering the formation of a new district headquartered in Muvattupuzha.
He said a Delimitation Commission would be constituted for the purpose. The Chief Minister made the announcement at a function held in Muvattupuzha.
The government had previously announced in the Budget that the formation of new districts in the state would be examined. There have also been demands from certain quarters for the division of Malappuram district. Discussions are also underway on the need for a new district centred on Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram. Satheesan's announcement regarding Muvattupuzha comes amid these discussions.
Earlier, there had been proposals to form Muvattupuzha district by bringing together the Devikulam and Thodupuzha Assembly constituencies in Idukki district, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Piravom constituencies in Ernakulam district, and some areas of Perumbavoor.
