Kozhikode: The Muslim League has expelled businessman Razak Rotana, who faced allegations in the theft of funds belonging to the Qatar Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), following widespread criticism over the case. Rotana was a member of the Muslim League’s Qatar State Council. The state League committee announced his expulsion.

The KMCC fund is collected through monthly contributions from ordinary expatriates. The League leadership’s failure to file a complaint even a year after the theft had raised suspicions among party workers. The expulsion comes amid growing criticism over the handling of the case.

The investigation has currently stalled. Bombay Shaji, considered the prime suspect, has not been arrested. In an audio message released by Shaji, the name of Rotana Razak is mentioned. Police reportedly believe that the theft in Qatar took place with the knowledge of KMCC.

An initial attempt to break open the locker using an individual named Balakrishnan failed. The locker was broken open during a second attempt a few days later. Of the three lockers, two were broken into. It is widely believed that the theft could not have taken place without the knowledge of KMCC office-bearers, as only they knew about the lockers.
