Mother and Minor Son Found Dead in Kerala’s Thrissur

Thrissur: A woman and her five-year-old son were found dead at their home in Ambalakkavu in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Tuesday, police said. The deceased were identified as Shilpa (30) and her son Akshayajith (5). Police suspect that the woman killed the child before taking her own life.

According to the police, the child was found lying on a bed inside a room, while the woman was found hanging nearby. The incident came to light after the room remained locked for a long time in the morning. The woman’s husband told the police that he had been in another room as he was unwell. When there was no response from inside, he entered the room and discovered both of them dead, police said.

A senior police officer said preliminary findings indicate that the child may have been strangled before the woman died by suicide. “The exact cause of death can be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination,” the officer said. Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths.
