New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance for the victims of the explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Thrissur. An ex gratia of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the families of those who lost their lives, while the injured will receive ₹50,000 each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Expressing grief over the incident, the Prime Minister said he shares the pain of those who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to the injured in a message posted on X.

State Revenue Minister K Rajan stated that all necessary medical support and facilities have been arranged to save the lives of the injured. He added that rescue operations were initiated immediately by coordinating various departments as soon as the incident was reported.

Rescue efforts faced challenges as fire and rescue vehicles had difficulty accessing the site, compounded by the risk of further explosions. Despite this, fire force personnel, police, and local residents worked together to shift several injured people to hospitals.

Authorities are currently working to neutralize all explosive materials at the site to prevent further blasts. An assessment of damage to nearby houses and properties will also be conducted. The government has assured that all necessary assistance will be extended to the affected families.
